Searching For Lost Keys

Matthew 18:11-12 11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. 12 How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?

While talking with a friend one day, he shared with me how he had lost all his keys. His key ring was quite important to him as it contained keys to the church, his car, house, etc. He searched every room in the house, every where he could. Knowing my friend I’m positive he was very diligent in his search. He said he even searched the pockets of his clothes. Without his keys he couldn’t go where he needed to in his car. After his relentless yet unfruitful search he knelt down to pray and asked the Lord for help. As he was praying, he shifted his weight, placing his hand down on the floor for a moment to steady himself. His hand landed on something hard and lumpy. It was his “lost” ring of keys. What a joy to know our God answers our prayers that fast!

God wasn’t content that 99% of the created worlds were still loyal and in His fold. 1% of His children were still lost. The missing 1% were so important to Him that Calvary was planned “from the foundations of the world” and Jesus came to this world – planet earth. May God give us the same passion for lost souls. And He will, it’s only natural, as we abide in Jesus and He abides in us, our character is transformed to be like His. We’ll develop the same passion for His lost children that He has. Live in a world that is perishing around us – neighbors, work associates, friends, family, perhaps even church members. As we develop Christ’s passion for their salvation we need to be earnestly in prayer that the lost may be found. That God will lead us to those precious souls He will work through us to help.
