Jeremiah 2:13

Jeremiah 2:13 “For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.”

It has been a lovely beginning to August here. My wife took this picture earlier today of a great blue heron perched on top of our rope swing pole. I really enjoy living beside/near water. The water in this picture looks inviting, even tempting, doesn’t it? But as clean as it may appear, it is still lake water. I guess if thirsty one might consider or even be tempted to use a type of “life straw”. But why do that when there is clean pure water just a few steps away in our house?

In similar fashion, Christians can be tempted to “drink” spiritually from the “broken cisterns of Babylon”. But why do that when they can drink from the Bible and other inspired non-Biblical sources, and even other Adventist sources that contain a clean pure truth?

I’m reminded of something I heard another pastor once say. When asked to review a book or other literature or media from non-inspired sources, he would, but if/as soon as he encountered Biblical error he would stop. There really was no need to “drink” or proceed any further.

May you be content drinking at the pure cisterns that tell of Jesus, the living waters!

John 4:14 “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”
