Distracted or Determined?

Yes, there is a lot to distract a soul with covid-19, natural disasters, the economy, politics, and other things happening in the world. But I had a thought this week as I was seeing some of the posts on fb (actually a recurring though I’ve had for quite a while). While He was on earth, I believe Jesus was certainly aware of “world events” and the (corrupt) politics of His day, whether in the church or the secular government, but He was not distracted by it. When some of the Pharisees warned Him that Herod might try to kill Him, He had a simple reply. Its in Luke 13:31-32 “Just at that time some Pharisees came up, saying to Him, “Go away and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You.” 32 And He said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I reach My goal.’ (NAS). Did you notice, Jesus didn’t have time to waste on governmental politics (though He had much more to say on/about church politics/leaders)? He had a mission, and was on that mission to do His Father’s will and become the world’s Sacrifice/Redeemer/Savior. He didn’t have time to complain, He simply called Herod a “fox”, and then spoke of His own ministry. I think there is an important lesson for Christians in general and Adventists in particular. God has called His people, His church, and given them a mission – to take the gospel to the world by being a witness, a light, salt, an Elijah & 4 angel message messenger! Have we been/are we distracted from “our Father’s business”? What if God allowed this “shut-down” time as a means to wake up His people, His church. What if we were/are using this extra free time to draw ever closer in communion with Him, and become, by grace, the witness/light/salt/messenger He calls us to be? Well, its just a (recurring) thought …. and something I need to be more mindful of …
